Teresa Gómez Trueba

Prof. Teresa Gómez Trueba, PhD – Universidad de Valladolid (Spain)

The return to the real: blood, sweat and viscera for a post-technological novel

PhD in Hispanic Philology and Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Valladolid. She has studied and edited Obra poética de Juan Ramón Jiménez (Espasa Calpe, 2005, 4 ts.). She is also the author of the book El sueño literario en España (Cátedra, 1999). In recent years she has dedicated herself to the latest Spanish narrative, taking into account recent phenomena such as self-fiction, generic hybridity, the mediation of literature and new technologies. On these issues, he has published, together with Carmen Morán, the book Hologramas: realidad y relato del siglo XXI (Trea, 2017).

In her lecture she will reflect on an increasingly visible aesthetic that reacts against the technological revolution and the simulacra of postmodernity, loading the inks in the description of the real, with enormous doses of crudeness, violence, sordidness and scenes of stark naturalism. This aesthetic, which is evident in interesting novels by some contemporary Spanish authors (Jesús Carrasco, Lara Moreno, Marina Pérezagua, Isaac Rosa …), points us to a post-apocalyptic and post-technological atmosphere and speaks of the current desire for recovery of lost roots and authenticity.
